IELTS
International English Language Testing System

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a standardized English language proficiency test used for academic and immigration purposes. It assesses the ability of non-native English speakers to communicate effectively in English across four language skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

Test Format

The IELTS test has two main versions - Academic and General Training. The Academic version is for those applying to study at universities or higher education institutions, while the General Training version is for work, migration, or training programs.

IELTS assesses four language skills

Listening: Four recordings by native English speakers with questions of increasing difficulty.
Reading: Three reading passages with various question types, covering academic or general topics.
Writing: Two tasks differ based on the test version. Academic: graph description and academic essay. General Training: letter and general essay.
Speaking: Face-to-face interview with an examiner, including a personal introduction, a short speech, and topic-based discussions.

Scoring

IELTS scores range from 0 to 9, with half-point increments. Each section (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) receives a separate score, and the overall score is the average of the four section scores.

Test Duration

The total test duration is about 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Listening, Reading, and Writing sections are taken on the same day, while the Speaking section can be conducted up to a week before or after the other sections.

PTE
Pearson Test of English

PTE is a computer-based English language proficiency test used for academic and immigration purposes. It assesses a candidate’s ability to understand and use the English language in a variety of real-life scenarios.

Test Format

PTE is a computer-based test that assesses four language skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing.

Speaking: The Speaking section involves various tasks, such as reading aloud, repeating sentences, describing images, and answering short questions.
Listening: In the Listening section, candidates listen to audio recordings and answer questions related to the content.
Reading: The Reading section comprises different types of questions, including multiple-choice, re-order paragraphs, and fill in the blanks.
Writing: The Writing section requires candidates to write essays and summarize written or spoken information.

Scoring

PTE scores are based on a scale of 10 to 90, with 10-point increments, reflecting the proficiency level in each skill and an overall score.

Quick Results

PTE provides test-takers with quick results, usually within 2 to 5 business days.

TOEFL
Test of English as a Foreign Language

TOEFL is a standardized English language proficiency test widely used for academic and professional purposes. It measures the ability of non-native English speakers to understand and use English in an academic setting.

Test Format

TOEFL is available in two main formats - TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test) and TOEFL PBT (Paper-Based Test). The TOEFL iBT is more common and widely accepted worldwide.

Scoring

TOEFL scores range from 0 to 120, with each section receiving a separate score. The total score is the sum of the four section scores.

Language Skills

The TOEFL assesses four language skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. Each section evaluates a candidate's ability to comprehend and communicate in English.

Test Flexibility

TOEFL is conducted frequently throughout the year at test centers worldwide, providing candidates with scheduling flexibility.

SAT
Scholastic Assessment Test

The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. It assesses a student’s readiness for higher education by measuring their knowledge and skills in critical reading, writing, and math.

Test Sections

The SAT consists of three main sections - Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW), Math, and an optional Essay (Essay section is not required by all colleges).

Math

The Math section assesses a student's knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis through multiple-choice and grid-in questions.

Scoring

SAT scores range from 400 to 1600, with 200 to 800 points for EBRW and Math each. The Essay is scored separately, ranging from 6 to 24.

Evidence-Based Reading and Writing

This section evaluates a student's reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing skills through passages and multiple-choice questions.

Essay (Optional)

The Essay section requires students to analyze and respond to a provided passage. While it is optional, some colleges may require it for admission consideration.

Test Duration

The SAT, including the optional Essay, takes about 3 hours and 50 minutes. Without the Essay, it takes approximately 3 hours.

GRE
Graduate Record Examination

The GRE is a standardized test used for admissions to graduate programs, including master’s and doctoral degrees, in various disciplines. It assesses a student’s readiness for graduate-level studies and measures their verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills.

Test Sections

The GRE consists of three main sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing.

Quantitative Reasoning

The Quantitative Reasoning section assesses a student's mathematical and quantitative problem-solving skills, including algebra, geometry, data analysis, and arithmetic.

Scoring

GRE scores for Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning range from 130 to 170, in one-point increments. The Analytical Writing section is scored from 0 to 6, in half-point increments.

Verbal Reasoning

This section evaluates a student's ability to comprehend written material, analyze relationships between words, and understand and evaluate written arguments.

Analytical Writing

In this section, students are required to write two essays - "Analyze an Issue" and "Analyze an Argument" - to demonstrate their critical thinking and analytical writing abilities.

Test Duration

The GRE takes approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete, including short breaks between sections.
